Junior Griffin Liddle redeemed himself after his one-point defeat at last year’s meet on Saturday, March 22. Liddle wrestled with Ames’ Gabrial Greenlee in a 7-2 match. He is Bettendorf’s first state champion since Nate Shaw in 2012.
He was undefeated all season going 21-0.
Griffin was inspired by his coaches and teammates to push through the season. He came back from an injury that occurred during football season. Liddle had to change up his wrestling style in order to bounce back and become a fierce competitor once again.
Leading up to the meet, Liddle went hard in both practicing and lifting to prepare himself.
“I am very excited that all of my hard work has paid off,” said Liddle after winning at State.
In the future, Liddle plans on continuing his football career at the University of Iowa.
