Poole’s shutout sends boys soccer to state tournament

Senior Micah Poole saved the game and kept the hopes of boys soccer alive on Saturday, May 25. Poole, a goalkeeper, has been playing soccer ever since he was little.

“I’ve been playing soccer ever since I was three. My dad made me do it to get me out of the house,” said Poole

The Bulldogs won 1-0 in a 3-2 shootout against the Pleasant Valley Spartans. Poole was the only thing standing between PV and a trip to the state tournament.

“It was nerve-racking because I knew that the team was relying on me, especially because we had missed some of our earlier PKs,” said Poole.

After the shot was blocked, the crowd roared and Poole was ecstatic.

“It was pure joy. Mostly because after I blocked that shot I knew that we had accomplished what we had been wanting to do all year: beat PV on their home turf and get to state,” Poole said.

The boys will be taking on Urbandale on Thursday, May 30, In Des Moines.

Poole is a candidate for MTI’s Score Standout for WQAD Channel 8. Vote now here.
