Athlete Spotlight: Maggie Erpelding

An all-around athlete at Bettendorf, junior Maggie Erpelding participates in softball, basketball, track, and volleyball.

Erpelding starts her year as a defensive specialist and setter for the Bettendorf volleyball team. Erpelding has worked her way up to the varsity volleyball squad.

“Maggie is a very good player and leader. She knows what to do on the court. When she is setting, she calls the plays for the team,” volleyball teammate Jenna Marxen said.

With a record of 3-4, the team is off to a slow start, but Erpelding remains positive. She says that, “Once we get going, we can set our standards pretty high.”

With plenty of talent and good chemistry, it shouldn’t be much longer before the Bulldogs volleyball squad starts winning again.

Although the volleyball season will soon come to a close, Erpelding will not stop participating in Bettendorf athletics.

The next sport up for the year-round athlete will be basketball. Erpelding plans to play point guard for the varsity team coached by Brian Tritt.

After basketball concludes, Erpelding will shift her focuses to the track. In her career, Erpelding has found success in running the 100-meter dash. In her freshman year, she qualified for the Drake Relays and the 4A Iowa State Championship.

Erpelding finishes the year with the Bettendorf softball team. She will play left field and center field for the varsity team this upcoming year.

“She always brings a positive attitude and is very encouraging to other teammates,” softball teammate Sarah Rogers said.

After softball finishes, Erpelding will be back in the gym working with the volleyball team and starting the process up again.
