SAVE Club starts new year with many changes, including a new name

September 18, 2018

The SAVE (Students Against Violating the Earth) Club, now called Community Conservation Club, will begin meeting after school on Mondays in room C302.

The SAVE Club is advised by Spencer Mesick, Environmental Science teacher. This is his first year with the club.

“Come to room C302 if Monday doesn’t work for you,” Mesick said. “We will be doing a lot of environmental conservation, making homes for animals and plants, and helping endangered species.”

Leadership positions are still being determined and will be voted on during the Sept. 24 meeting.

“Mr. Mesick came to me at the end of last year asking me if I would be interested in joining the club, for he would be revamping it,” Ava Abbott, a 10th grader, said.

The club currently has 16 members and is open for more from any grade.

“I enjoy life science very much, which is what we do in SAVE Club. I also like the people in SAVE Club and have a lot of friends in there. It’s just a really great experience and I recommend it,” Charlotte Barnes, a 10th grader, said.

The club is continuously open for new members. Anyone wishing to participate should make sure to go to a meeting. Some events are planned after that.

“On Oct. 20 and Oct. 26, we will be working with a professional artist to create an environmental awareness art piece along the Mississippi, so if you want to do something really neat make sure to join before then,” said Mesick.

Other activities such as building a greenhouse and a garden will be available.

“It is a lot of fun, and the more people we have the more fun we can have. It is going to be a great club, and we are going to change this school for the better. We also have cool shirts,” said Abbot.

“Do you care about the future of the environment and leaving it better off for your kids? If so, join. If you like being outside in nature, we are one of the few clubs that does stuff like that,” said Mesick.
