Student Council holds Pop Tab Fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House
Student Council kicked off its Pop Tab Fundraiser this week in the commons. The Pop Tab Fundraiser is a fundraiser to have students donate pop tabs which will go towards the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City.
Sophomore class president, Mitch Winterlin brought up the idea earlier this year.
“My sister did this a few years ago through a different organization, and I thought it was going to such a great cause, so I brought it up as an idea for Student Council to do,” he said.
The money received is based on how many pounds of pop tabs that are donated. Student Council added a competition element to this fundraiser. There are bins in the commons with John Jacobs, Daniel Van Winkle, Ray Knight, and Kayla Papish’s photo on each bin. Whichever teacher has the most pop tabs donated in his or her bin will drink a blended up Happy Meal.
“Students should participate because it will benefit those in need in the hospital,” Winterlin said.
Students have until Friday, April 20, to donate pop tabs, and soon after there will be an announcement regarding when to see the winning teacher drink the blended Happy Meal.
