Bettendorf High School is hosting its annual Students First banquet on Thursday, April 5, at 5:30 p.m. in the Commons. Students are nominated by teachers who believe the student has overcome obstacles. Students that are nominated choose a teacher sponsor to attend with them.
“This banquet is important to me because a teacher that I have known for a while sees the work that I put into school and my grades, and he recognized my achievements,” senior Melanie Wendell said.
Wendell was nominated by Daniel Van Winkle and chose Loralee Cole as her teacher sponsor for the event.
“Mr. Van Winkle has been there for me. It makes me feel special that he chose me out of all of his students. Mrs. Cole has also been there for me and helped with family issues. She checks up on me a lot and helps me with anything that comes up,” Wendell said.
