Bulldogs cruise past Davenport North
The Bulldogs came out last week and dominated from start to finish. Playing at Brady Street Stadium last Thursday, Bettendorf shut out Davenport North 49-0. The Bulldogs now move to 6-1 on the season and remain undefeated in the district, pushing them closer and closer to winning the district completely with only two games.
Last week’s standouts are of no surprise at this point in the season. Quarterback Carter Bell had another outstanding game with 138 passing yards, four TD total (two passing, two rushing), and a 70 percent passing completion rate. Bell’s season completion rate sits at 68 percent, an impressive stat when combined with his 934 total passing yards this season, and he will surely surpass quadruple digits by the end of the regular season.
Senior running back Nijel McIntosh had another great outing as well, with 117 rushing yards on nine attempts and a 68 yard TD. McIntosh this season is sitting with 672 total rushing yards. That number may seem small in comparison to other local RB1’s; however, McIntosh has seen significantly fewer carry opportunities than other local running backs as the team has had dominative success.
Senior Dustin Harris came out with a great stat line against the Wildcats, with two interceptions on the night, one ending in the endzone. Harris also racked up five total tackles as well as a sack assist.
Lastly, one of the more interesting statistics from last Thursday, the Bulldog receiving core had an amazing game. Every player with at least one reception totalled over 10 yards at least. The receivers have seen some great plays across the season, and the options Bettendorf has at positions has grown since the beginning of the year.
The Bulldogs will host Iowa City High in the regular season home closer this Friday at TouVelle Stadium. The Little Hawks of Iowa City High are 2-5 on the season and have only one victory in district play. Bettendorf looks to dominate once again this Friday as it plays for senior night as well.
