Bulldogs down Knights, turn to Cedar Rapids Washington

September 8, 2017

The Bulldogs bounced back from the home opener loss to West Des Moines Valley by thoroughly downing the Assumption Knights 45-7. The game kept close in the first quarter, but started to pull away from the Knights in the second.

The standouts for the Assumption include senior Nigel McIntosh, with a staggering game for rushing. With only five rushes throughout the game, McIntosh racked up 146 yards and three touchdowns (including a 87 yard TD run). Quarterback Carter Bell commanded the field once again with a 77 percent pass completion rate and 113 total passing yards on the night. The most notable statistic for the offense, however, might be that Bettendorf had four receivers total over 20 yard each in receiving yards, showing the diversity in receiving roles.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Bulldogs held the Knights to only one score the entire game. Senior Luke Soko and junior Alex Blizzard dominated the Assumption offense with over eight tackles each.

Assumption may not have been the most challenging game for the Dogs, but coming back to beat the Knights after a tough home loss to West Des Moines Valley is quite impressive.

The Dogs turn around and play Cedar Rapids Washington (1-1), which sits just outside of the top ten AP rankings for Iowa high school football. Bettendorf, ranked eighth on that poll, will travel to Cedar Rapids to take on the Warriors. This will be a determining game for the Bulldogs as the team dropped to the Warriors last year in a nailbiter. In addition, The Dogs saw a huge drop in the polls last season after starting the year 1-2. Bettendorf looks to dial it in and take down Cedar Rapids Washington this Friday on the Warriors’ home field.
