Bulldogs return to gridiron
After a long off-season, the Bulldogs of Bettendorf finally return to hard hits, deep throws, and Friday night lights. With a respectable 7-3 record from the 2016 season, the program looks to go to the next level this fall. Starting off the season against a perennial powerhouse, West Des Moines Valley, the Dogs aim to improve from last season matchup against the Tigers (49-13 loss).
Bettendorf’s lineup is looking considerably different this season with the departure of focal point players from the 2016 campaign like JMichael Young, Suni Lane, and Keegan Glaus. These three former Bulldogs amassed the majority of scoring last season and are looked to be replaced but a new Bulldog team.
Filling Young’s spot, junior Carter Bell will show his varsity skills this year as he leads Bettendorf from quarterback. Supporting Bell for scoring will be seniors Ben Wilson, Jaron Shook, and Nigel McIntosh. Wilson and Shook followed Lane in receiving last year, respectively; the two are going to be vital in the receiving core with their experience.
McIntosh returns for another year as running back; however, without Glaus in front of him, McIntosh looks to take the spotlight as the main rusher. He totaled four touchdowns and 294 yards last season and steps into a vital position for the Bulldogs.
TouVelle Stadium will hold the first game of Bettendorf’s season against the West Des Moines Valley Tigers at 7 pm. Football season is coming, and the Bulldogs are ready to get back to business.
