How to conquer summer boredom

Summer is a fun time to enjoy the outdoors, hang out with friends, and enjoy a summer vacation. Oftentimes this long break leads to teens having some spare time at some point that they don’t know what to do with. To help prevent summer boredom, here are some productive, fun summer activities for teens to do in the Quad Cities.

  • Volunteer: Giving back to your community is a great way to spend time in the summer. Many places in the Quad Cities often need volunteers during the summer such as the Family Museum in Bettendorf, the Humane Society of Scott County in Davenport, the American Red Cross in Rock Island, or volunteer at city events.

  • Summer Jobs: Summer is the perfect time to get a job and earn some money! Many local businesses need employees and having a job is a good way to gain experience. Jobs that hire teens include Hy-Vee, Whitey’s, and Happy Joe’s.

  • Learn something new: It's never too late to pick up a new skill! You could learn to cook, learn how to play an instrument, or even learn a new language. If you don't want to learn something new, you could also perfect a skill you're currently working on.

  • Try New Things: Many teens often stress about college and struggle with figuring out what they’re interested in. Get a jump start on the college search and start exploring different colleges and career paths during the summer.
