Kailey Baxter has been part of the theatre department for three years and has been involved in two musicals performed by the BHS theatre department.
“I love musicals, and I love Disney productions. I just wanted to be a part of it, like previous years,” Baxter said.
Previously, Baxter has performed in “Mary Poppins” and “Crazy for You.” This year, Baxter auditioned to be in the musical, “Beauty and the Beast,” and received the lead role.
“Getting this role has been a dream come true. I've always wanted a lead since I was a little girl, and I still can't believe it actually happened,” Baxter said.
However, being the lead comes with a big responsibility. Baxter has been rehearsing for many months to perfect her role and to become her character.
“My advice to other students is to never give up. Whatever role you get to perform, make it the best you possibly can, even if it is not necessarily what you hoped for. If you work hard, it will always pay off,” Baxter said.
You can see Baxter and other students perform in the production of Beauty and the Beast this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7 p.m., and on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the PAC. Tickets are $10, and can be purchased online or at the door.
