STORY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Over 15,000 left without power as result of storms

  • Debris, downed power lines and overturned vehicles shit down all of I-280 at Locust and I-80 west bound at Durant, caused traffic problems on other portions of Metro interstates

Severe storms pushed through the area late Monday night dropping tornadoes, high winds and hail.

Multiple tornado warnings were issued for the Metro as the storms reached the Mississippi River.

One tornado, determined an EF-2, tore through Muscatine causing significant damage to the downtown.

Another tornado, also an EF-2, travelled from Muscatine to northwest Davenport.

Following the storm, thousands in the QCA were left without power.

Over 15,000 were without power at one point overnight.

The storms also caused traffic problems after sweeping through the Metro.

I-280 was shut down in both directions at Locust St. as debris and downed power lines had covered the road between the Kimberly Rd. and Locust St. exits.

I-80 west bound was also shut down near Durant due to a blocked roadway.

The National Weather Service will continue to survey areas to determine  a tornado touch down and the how large the tornado was on the Enhanced Fujita scale.
