Show choir season ends on a good note
Surround Sound and Audio Intensity finished their season at Western Dubuque last Saturday, Feb. 25. Surround Sound is in its 10th year of competitive show choir and this is Audio Intensity’s first year as a co ed prep group. Last year, the group was called the Decibelles and was made up of only girls. This season was one of major growth for both groups. Both show choirs also assisted in hosting the first annual Rhythm on the Riverbend competition at Bettendorf High School.
At the first competition, Big Dance at Davenport North, Surround Sound was awarded seventh place in finals and Cole Harksen was named Best Male Soloist. The prep group, Audio Intensity, placed fifth.
The second competition was new to the groups and was called the Power City Classic at Keokuk High School. Audio Intensity placed second and Surround Sound placed fourth in finals.
The most difficult competition of the year was the Great River Invitational hosted by Davenport West and Davenport Central. Surround Sound did not make finals at this competition, but was awarded the People’s Choice award. Audio Intensity placed fifth.
The Main Event at Western Dubuque High School was a successful competition for both groups. Surround Sound placed fourth in final awards out of the nine varsity groups in 4A, 3A, and 2A divisions. Audio Intensity placed second out of seven groups in the prep division. Cole Harksen and Luke Seybert were also awarded Outstanding Performer awards.
The final opportunity to see both show choirs in action is this Saturday, March 4. Special acts start at 6:30. Along with Surround Sound and Audio Intensity, the middle school show choir, Reverberation, will also be performing. This is also a chance to see the parent parody performance and the senior salute to honor graduating performers.
