The next blood drive is on Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Commons. Anyone 16 years of age or older is allowed to donate, but 16-year-olds must have a signed Parental Consent Form. Community walk-ins are also welcome to donate.
The Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center serves 10 local hospitals in Iowa and Illinois. Besides receiving blood from walk-in donors, this organization travels to many host groups, like schools, around the Quad Cities throughout the year to collect donated blood.
Giving blood only takes five to ten minutes, but additional time is needed before for the paperwork and after for a snack. Volunteers from the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center recommend that students eat a good breakfast before donating. In addition, all donors will need to have a photo ID present to donate. The goal is to have 100 total blood units donated by the end of the day. To sign up, go to Activities Office or see Mrs. Hansen in room D313 to make an appointment.
