The drama department is preparing to present “Beauty and the Beast,” the spring musical. Juniors Kailey Baxter and Tyler Wilson play the roles of Belle and the Beast. Other leads include Donato Callahan as Gaston, Grant Mougin as Maurice, Ben Tinsman as Cogsworth, Molly Seybert as Mrs. Potts, Cole Harkson as Lumiere, Lily Broyles as Babette, Olivia Gasper as Madame de la Grande Bouche, Alex Obert as Lefou, and Sam Hayles as Monsieur D’Arque. Many students are also involved in the show as ensemble, enchanted objects, crew, and pit.
“Rehearsals are so much fun. This show is shaping up to be my favorite ever, and I can’t wait to show the school,” Callahan said.
Ensemble members are showcased in exciting musical numbers such as “Belle,” “Be Our Guest,” “Gaston,” “Human Again,” and “The Mob Song.”
“My favorite song is ‘Belle’ because at the beginning I get one of the first lines, and it’s a fun song to open a show with everyone onstage,” Alex Steele said.
This is Steele’s first show, and he is a member of the ensemble.
The cast meets in the choir room or performing arts center every day after school to rehearse and learn blocking, vocals, and dancing.
“My favorite part is learning the dances because it’s cool to put dances to the music we’ve learned. I’m looking forward to putting everything together and seeing the outcome,” Kassie Posey said.
“Beauty and the Beast” will be performed on April 6-9, 2017, in the performing arts center.
