In the last few weeks, the boys swim team has competed in many tough meets and invitationals. Coached by Mike Ahrens, the team is getting close to the end of its season.
On Thursday, Jan. 5, the team competed against Pleasant Valley. Winning nine of the 11 events and getting second in the other two events, the team tied with Pleasant Valley, who was favored to win by 12 points.
“We were losing until the last event. Coach pulled us over and said that if we won the relay, we would tie the meet,” Ryan Schade said.
Schade won the 100 breastroke and the 200 individual medley. He also anchored the last relay, the 400 freestyle relay.
On Jan. 7, the team traveled to Dubuque Hempstead for the Mustang Invitational with six other teams. The team won 10 of the 11 events, clenching first place by 28 points.
The following week on Jan. 12, the team traveled to Muscatine. The team continued its winning streak, defeating Muscatine 103-67.
Last Saturday, Jan. 14, the team competed at Cedar Rapids Washington in another invitational. Bettendorf got third place out of a total of six teams.
On Thursday, Jan. 19, Bettendorf will hosted Burlington. Thhis week, the team will travel to Davenport West for its final regular meet of the season.
