Staying in shape and eating healthy during the winter months can be hard. Katie Byrne, senior, participates in off season sports, such as volleyball and soccer, to stay healthy. She has open gym and soccer games once a week and lifts three times a week after school.
“I recommend that others go to classes at the YMCA like zumba. I like these classes because someone is telling you what to do, and you do not have to think of exercises for yourself,” Byrne said.
Byrne also suggests eating healthy snacks, such as Skinny Pop and Skinny Cow snacks, and making a New Year’s resolution.
“It is never too late to make a resolution to eat healthier,” Byrne said.
Heidi O’Brien, senior, likes to eat healthy snacks such as oatmeal and sweet potatoes.
“I recommend that others eat healthy during the winter months even though you may crave sweets. You should also keep working out despite the cold weather. If you do not want to go to the gym, there are plenty of exercises you can do at your house,” H. O’Brien said.
H. O’Brien dances every week to stay in shape and makes time in the morning to have a good breakfast. She also goes to the gym to work out on the elliptical.
“I enjoy playing on the basketball team and going to open gym for soccer to stay in shape during the winter,” Lauren O’Brien said.
L. O’Brien suggests that others stay active during the winter months. She recommends playing basketball with friends or going to the YMCA.
“I think others should eat healthy during the winter. My favorite healthy snack is any kind of fruit,” L. O’Brien said.
