German club travels to Christmas market
On Saturday, Dec. 10, the German Club took a day long trip to downtown Chicago to experience a bit of German culture.
Leaving at 7:30 in the morning and returning at 7 p.m., the group of 23 students and three adults took a charter bus to the heart of the Windy City to shop and eat.
Senior Ceara Larson, a Spanish student, said,”It was neat to see all the culture and customs. I also bought some great apple cider.”
The club arrived in Chicago at 10:40 a.m., and the gates to the market opened at 11 a.m. Selling a variety of goods, many vendors sold items from cuckoo clocks to giant pretzels.
In addition to shopping at the market, students were allowed to shop within a five block radius of the market. Some of the stores nearby included Nordstrom Rack, Urban Outfitters, and American Apparel.
On the way home, the group stopped at the Aurora outlet mall to get in a bit more shopping, and finally, they trekked back as it began to snow.
This is an annual tradition for the group. If you think you are interested in going, be on the lookout next year. Additionally, the club meets on certain Wednesdays after school in Frau Diana Steiner’s room to practice the language and learn more about German culture and life.
