Trump elected president, Clinton concedes

After a long campaign season followed by a long election night, Republican Donald Trump has been elected the next President of the United States, with Vice President Elect Mike Pence.

 

Donald Trump received 276 electoral votes with 59,131,310 votes.

 

Clinton received 218 electoral votes with 59,293,071 votes.

 

Clinton conceded to Trump in a private phone call.

President Obama called Trump early Wednesday morning to congratulate Trump on his win and to invite him to the White House next week to speak on the transition. 

 

Stock market futures showed the Dow to drop over 800 points at one point in time Tuesday night, with the NASDAQ dropping almost 280 points due to the uncertainty of the election.

 

On Wednesday morning, the stock market opened steady.
