The road to state

On Saturday, Oct. 29, the girls swim team traveled to Linn-Mar to compete in the regional competition. The team was very successful, qualifying for state in 10 of the 12 events. Some of the qualifying swimmers included Emily VanDeWiele, Arianna Ottavianelli, Alexia Beine, Sage Ohlensehlen, Hena Hassan, Megan Greenley, Megan Schade, and Anna Wall.

The Bettendorf High School girls swim team has not placed first or second at state since 2009. In 2009, the team finished second at state and first at regionals. The last time the girls swim team place first at state was in 2002. Mike Ahrens was the coach during both of these state appearances.

The swim team left for state today, Nov. 4. The state diving competition takes place tonight at 5 p.m, while the swimming competition takes place tomorrow, Nov. 5 at 12 p.m. Admission each day is $10 per person. The competition is in Marshalltown, Iowa, at the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA.
