The Growl attends 2016 IHSPA Fall Conference
Twelve students, involved in Publications and Journalistic Writing, attended the Iowa High School Press Association on Oct. 27 in Iowa City.
“My favorite session of the Iowa High School Press Association was learning about how to experiment on our yearbooks and newspapers,” Leah Evans said.
Evans, junior, went to the conference for her third time and enjoyed all the sessions she attended.
“I would recommend for students to go because you learn a lot even if you don’t want to do newspaper or design as a career,” Evans said.
Gabrielle VanderVinne, senior, attended the conference for the first time and her favorite session was “How to become an influencer and make money doing things you would do for free.”
“I also enjoyed listening to the key note speaker and the award winners at the end,” VanderVinne said.
Andrew Ball, junior, has attended the conference three times since his freshman year.
“One of my favorite parts of the conference was seeing how other schools work on their yearbook and newspaper. As well as being able to gain new ideas from them,” Ball said.
Damaris Stroker, senior, liked meeting new people from other schools and being able to share ideas with them.
“Even though the Simpson College professor told me I peaked in high school, I didn’t,” Stroker said.
