On Monday, Oct. 17, the girls swim team had its last regular meet of the season. The team swept Rock Island with a score of 133-53, finishing off the regular season undefeated.
“Our team goal is to get second at state and win regionals,” Emily Vandewiele said.
Vandewiele’s individual goal is to get within the top three at state for the 200 freestyle. Vandewiele and the team plan to achieve their goals by working hard at practices for the next two weeks.
“Our practices are hard. We have practices twice a day three times a week and lift a couple of times every week, too,” Eve Berg said.
Although everyone spends a lot of time together during practices, the team also makes memories outside of practice. The swimmers typically eat breakfast together in the mornings after practices and team dinner a couple of times throughout the season. The team also has dance parties after practice in the wrestling room to have some fun.
The MAC Regional meet is on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 10 a.m. at Linn-Mar High School in Marion. The team hopes to win this meet and move on to state.
