Fall activities this season

October 14, 2016

With the heart of fall approaching, there are many different activities to get you in the fall spirit. Here are some ideas of fun fall activities to do with friends or family.

Pumpkin carving is a great fall tradition that is relatively cheap. The only thing you need is a pumpkin, a carving knife, and a little bit of creativity. Whether you carve a face, a ghost, or something that does not relate to Halloween, you will have a lot of fun and maybe make a little bit of a mess, too. When you are done carving the pumpkin, you can place a candle inside of the pumpkin and set it outside your front door. Carving pumpkins is a great memory to make with friends or family, especially if you are on a budget.

Pumpkin patches and apple orchards are becoming more popular every year. There are activities like corn mazes, haunted hay mazes, apple bobbing, tractor rides, and ceramic pumpkin painting. Pumpkin patches and apple orchards are slightly more expensive than other fall activities, but the variety of options at these places is well worth the price. Some local pumpkin patches include the Buffalo Pumpkin Patch and Pride of the Wapsi Pumpkin Patch. Pumpkin patches make a great day trip with friends or family, and you may even come home with a pumpkin to carve.

Whether you like scary movies or not, there is always a Halloween movie for you. Curling up on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate while watching Hocus Pocus or Halloweentown lets you forget about the stress from school. If you like scary movies, Sleepy Hollow or House of 1000 Corpses may be good movies to try. There are so many different Halloween movies that you could watch a different one every night in October and still have a few left over.

Between ice cream, coffee, or sweet treats, you can find pumpkin flavored recipes or items anywhere. If you want to bake your own pumpkin flavored treat, Pinterest has tons of great recipes that are easy to follow. Cookies, bread, and cupcakes are popular treats that people typically bake at home during the fall season. If you are looking to go to a store, restaurant, or cafe for pumpkin flavored items, many places around Bettendorf offer these kind of items. Starbucks has its annual pumpkin spice latte while Dairy Queen and Whitey’s offer different varieties of pumpkin pie flavored ice cream.
