This past weekend a small group of friends and I decided to try out a popular local Italian restaurant called Trattoria Tiramisu. For the time being, Trattoria Tiramisu is not conveniently located. Sitting on State Street in the center of seemingly endless and ever changing I-74 bridge and road construction, it took 20 minutes to drive from Bettendorf High School to the restaurant less than three miles away.
We arrived to the restaurant at 7 p.m., the parking lot in front of the restaurant was completely full. There is an additional parking lot on the side of the building. The available and potential parking space is plentiful, especially for a building of that size. The exterior of the restaurant is simple and cute, with entrances in both the front and back. The interior of the restaurant is dimly lit with low hanging lamps, tables dressed with red and white plaid cloth, giving the restaurant a very authentic Italian feel. There is an aroma of fresh basil and herbs throughout the open booth filled room.
We were seated quickly as we had reserved a table in advance, while others without reservations had to wait up to an hour for a seat. The restaurant offers complimentary baskets of bread to each table, along with olive oil and grated parmesan cheese. The bread is soft, warm, and fresh. It is a wonderful appetizer before the meals, and the baskets are unlimited. There are not many different item categories on the dinner menu, it’s quite limited. There is an array of meat dishes, assorted pastas, soups, and salads.
The waitress was extremely welcoming and friendly despite the very busy restaurant full of teenagers eating before their homecoming dances. She offered suggestions and informed us on the local favorite dishes which include steak and shrimp fettuccine alfredo. I decided to order the “Fettuccine al Salmone,” a pasta dish with salmon, cream sauce, spices, and parmigiano cheese. After ordering our food the waitress told us that the kitchen was backed up on orders and that our food may be a long wait. In less than 15 minutes, the large plates filled with pasta and beautifully garnished with mint and herbs sat steaming in front of us. The food was incredible, full of rich flavors and zesty spices. It’s no wonder that Trattoria Tiramisu is a local fan favorite. The service was wonderful, multiple servers were walking around the restaurant filling up drinks and carrying away plates, along with refilling bread baskets.
When the group finished eating the waitress brought out the bills, the tips were already conveniently added. For a large bowl of seafood pasta, the total including the tip was only $20, which is the average price per meal.
Overall, the restaurant has superb service, excellent cuisine, and a nice calm atmosphere. It was well worth the trip and short wait, Trattoria Tiramisu has earned its place in the Quad Cities “Locals love us” book, and even into my personal favorites.
