Environmental Club makes effort to S.A.V.E.
With the start of the new school year at BHS, there has been a resurgence of energy and activity around the campus, but, unfortunately, this means an increase in trash and mismanagement of waste.
The Environmental Club or S.A.V.E. Club is taking the initiative to make the school a more sustainable and environmentally friendly place.
On Tuesday, Aug. 30, the club had its first meeting of the year, and it discussed new ideas about ways to increase recycling and decrease the overall amount of disposable goods used in school.
One suggestion for how to do this included adding more recycling bins around the school, primarily down on the track and in the weight room and music department. Another initiative of the club is to educate students and staff about the impact they have on their surroundings and ways in which they can become greener.
The club hopes to conduct a trash audit in which it evaluates the amount of trash to recycling being thrown away. The members also hope to create a compost pile for the school.
If you would like to help out or join this club, it will be collecting recyclable goods in the stands at the varsity football game on Friday, Sept. 2.
