Bettendorf gets four new additions to the Bulldog family
“Foreign exchange Students come from all around the world to Bettendorf High School,” said Kristie Henson. Four new exchange students are attending Bettendorf High School this year.
Vilma Runestam is one of those four students. Runestam left Sweden on Tuesday, Aug. 16, flying into O’hare airport in Chicago.
“I was supposed to fly into Moline after I get into Chicago,” Runestam said, “but I missed my flight by 15 minutes.”
Runestam lives in Stockholm in a tiny suburb. She lives about 10 minutes from the central city and goes to a school called Hersby Gymnasium.
“It’s the same size of Bettendorf,” she said, “but we only have three grades, so we have more people in each grade.”
Rulestan has a sister and a brother; her sister is turning 24 and currently lives in South Dakota. Her brother is 25. She says she is excited to be at Bettendorf because she likes to experience new things, and she says everyone is extremely nice; unlike in Sweden where they are sometimes uptight and shy.
Bettendorf will have the four new exchange students for the entire school year.
