The girls and boys track teams are off to the races this season as they compete against the rest of the state. There are strong runners and fielders across the board for the Bulldogs this year as they are grinding through every week and steadily improving throughout the year.
The boys team is versatile with many strong multi-event members placing in their respective events. Senior Brandon Cooley is controlling the long distance events as he is ranked third in the 3200 meter and second in the 1600. Along with Brandon junior Cole Webster dominates the field events shot put and discus by leading the MAC in both. Junior Suni Lane is currently leading the MAC in high jump with a 6-3.0 score as well.
On the girls’ side, distance runner Trinity Borland is a front runner as she competes in a multitude of distance events. Sophomore Emma Ostrom is ranked third in the 100 meter dash and looks to improve before her shot at state.
“Everyone has really been pushing each other to improve, and I think that is where our motivation comes from. We have personal goals, obviously, but I think those goals all go toward bettering the team, and that is the most important aspect,” Ostrom said.
Sophomore Drew Gerth is a sprinter and has been pushing to improve his times as districts and state near.
“The biggest push for our team is the new coaching staff that is extremely invested in our improvement. We are a much more skilled team than last year and that shows that the program is developing. Our most important goal, I believe, is to just do well at state and have fun doing it. We are hoping we stay healthy as state is around the corner, and we really need to be careful of injuries and what not as that can damage our chances of doing well,” Gerth said.
All in all, the Bulldog track program is pushing itself to compete, and the team expects to be a force in the MAC as state draws near.
