I-74 bridge work begins Monday; expect heavy traffic, major delays

March 26, 2016

Work begins Monday, March 28, on portions of I-74 leading up to the bridge and closures are likely to create major delays.

Workers are fixing approach structures on the Illinois side of the river. Some concrete beneath the asphalt needs to be repaired. Expansion joints and some steel connections underneath the bridge approaches will be replaced as well.

The Iowa bound left lane will be closed from Avenue of the Cities to the bridge. The Illinois bound left lane will be closed from Kimberly to Seventh Avenue in Moline.

Warning signs have been installed along I-74 that will now alert drivers when traffic starts to back up or is stopped.

River Drive entrance and exit ramps in Moline will close Monday, April 4 to work on the bridge. Traffic will be detoured to the Seventh Avenue ramps.

Work is expected to be completed by late June.  At least 38,000 cars travel across the bridge every day.
