“The Bettendorf football team is held to high expectations and tends to live up to them.” Cameron Maxfield said.
“This coming season is predicted to be no different.” Josiah Graves said.
“ I like being a part of a winning history and living up to the expectations people have,” Maxfield said. Maxfield has played varsity football for the last two years.
“ I love the sport, some people say a sport is their first love and that was true for me,” Maxfield said.
The team is full of good kids that work hard and are committed to what they do according to head coach Aaron Wiley. The boys went through summer camps and workouts to stay in shape for the upcoming season
“ They are self motivated and hard working boys,” Wiley said.
The boys have been preparing for their first game against Assumption High school. “Can't say, football is unpredictable anything can happen,” Maxfield said when asked to predict the score. “We just have to execute everything and we will be fine” Wiley said .
Which was true because the team beat Assumption 35-28 it was a close call but the team pulled through with a win.
Assumption is one of Bettendorf’s rivals according to Maxfield but the team to beat this year in his eyes is Iowa City West.
Something that will help the team this year is the good leadership by the seniors and the high tempo that the team plays at, according to Wiley and Maxfield.
The team has already won their first game which is a good start to the season.
“ Every team has a weakness and ours will come but right now I can’t think of one,” Maxfield said.
A weakness that Bettendorf has had is the past has been injuries.
There are different ways to prevent injuries
. “ Offseason workouts and making sure everyone is in shape” Wiley said.
“Don’t think about injuries, if you think about them you get them,” Maxfield said.
Bettendorf football has made it to state in the past years and many people have notice. “ I trust my teammates and coaches, the coaches have a lot of experience and know what they are doing and I trust my teammate because I know they work hard and will get the job done.” Maxfield said.
This years team has started the season off well and hopes to have a great season in 2015.
